President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad challenged the authority of the U.N. Security Council as Iran faces a deadline to halt its uranium enrichment and he called for a televised debate with President Bush on world issues.

“The U.S. and Britain are the source of many tensions,” Ahmadinejad said at a news conference.
He also criticized their actions as permanent members of the UN Security Council, saying their veto power “is an insult to the dignity, independence, freedom and sovereignty of nations.”
“I suggest holding a live TV debate with George W. Bush to talk about world affairs and the ways to solve those issues,” he said.
“Isn’t it time that international relations were founded on democracy and equal rights of the nations?” he said.
“The debate should be uncensored in order for the American people to be able to listen to what we say and they should not restrict the American people from hearing the truth.” he added.
