History of African Nations cup since 1957
The African Nations Cup officially started on the 10th of February 1957, in the national stadium of Khartoum. But the idea goes back to the 8th of June 1956 when Abdel Aziz Abdallah Salem and Mohamed Latif from Egypt, Abdel Halim Shaddaad, Badawy Mohamed and Abdelhalim Mohamed from Sudan along with Fred Will from South Africa met in Avenida hotel in Portugal to discuss the idea of constructing an African Union and launching a competition between the continent’s different countries.
The constructional organization was held 8 months later in Grand Hotel in Khartoum only 2 days before the opening match between Egypt and Sudan.
1957, Sudan
Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia participated in the first tournament held in Sudan. South Africa was banned after refusing to send a mixed team (not based on a racist color) to Sudan, in which the competition was held. Egypt though was the first African champion.
1959, Egypt
Two years later, Egypt, lead by their inside left Mahmoud El Gohary succeeded to retain their trophy on home soil. The same three teams participated in this championship. The sixties has been a shining period for CAF, a period in which the Nations cup progressed and developed hugely.
AM OVERWEM THAT THE AFRICA NATIONS CUP HAS BEEN A VERY REMARKABLE TO THE AFRICAN MOTHER LAND AND THE REST OF THE WORLD.CAF IS ALSO DOING A GREAT JOB WE MUST GIVE EXCELENT TO THEM FOR THE GOOD WORK DONE SO FAR TO AFRICA FOTHBALL.
